Competition created to inspire local children to secure life-changing golf scholarships in the U.S.
12th March 2018, George, South Africa: ASM Academy announces today the launch of FP Markets Race to the USA, a unique initiative designed to enable children from within ASM Academy to win scholarships or opportunities to tertiary education, together with its partners Athletes USA, Glenwood House (Advtech) and FP Markets. This news follows the recent announcement that FP Markets, a market-leading and well-established global CFD and Forex provider with over 13 years industry experience, is a leading sponsor for ASM Academy, Africa’s most progressive Golf Academy. FP Markets Race to the USA’s competition is available to any young person enrolled at ASM Academy and is a holistic process where each child, from the age of 12, is mentored and coached to ensure that they have the golfing, academic and life skills to be able to secure a place at a US college. Competing in an order of merit that includes academic reports, performance in training, performance in competitions and community work, the top-ranked players subsequently win the chance to play in selected international events in front of US college coaches with potential scholarship offers.
FP Markets Race to the USA is extended to all young people living in Africa as even though the flagship programme is based at Oubaai Hotel Golf & Spa and Glenwood House, a leading private school in George, ASM Academy is a virtual learning-hub and can mentor, coach and create opportunities for young people across the continent. ASM Academy’s role is to support and aide every junior enrolled in its programme through the many varied challenges that they will face in their own personal race to secure a US College education.
Ernie Els, four-time major winner, speaking about FP Markets Race to the USA, said, “As partners in Athletes USA, the Ernie Els Group is excited to be an integral part in creating a seamless path for African student golfers with the launch of FP Markets Race to USA. Kids from all backgrounds in Africa now have an opportunity to start as youngsters at the ASM Academy, compete at top levels and eventually earn a scholarship at one of America's top Colleges. We are very impressed with Adam, his Academy and what they have achieved."
Adam McKinlay, Founder and Performance Director of ASM Academy, said, “FP Markets Race to the USA is a fantastic channel to create opportunities for South Africa’s youth to better their lives through sport. Golf is a great sport to help kids grow and develop as people, but it also creates a chance to enhance your academic performance. We help to steer many kids love of golf into a drive to improve at school because if they know that the best route to further their golfing career is to gain a scholarship to the States, we know that they will work harder. We encourage all parents who live in Africa with a sporty child aged 12 or over who wants them to grow, to contact ASM Academy and be part of our life-changing competition.”
Chris Vidal, Founder and President of Athletes USA, said, “Until now, securing a sports scholarship to an American University, through golfing ability, was a difficult and expensive process. Through the FP Markets Race to the USA, such opportunities to impress college coaches will become far more accessible to promising young African athletes. Athletes USA is honored to be part of such a fantastic initiative.”
Craig Allison, Head of Global Development at FP Markets commented, “FP Markets Race to the USA is one of the many reasons that we wanted to be a part of ASM Academy. At FP Markets, we believe in the power of education and this unique competition showcases how hard work, determination and training can help to open doors even in the most challenging of circumstances. It is an incredible chance for young children, from all backgrounds, to dream big and know that there are people and businesses that want to help them succeed. We look forward to witnessing the results of this innovative competition and seeing new golfing talent emerge from Africa."
